LOUSTAL - Exhibition from November 4 to December 5, 2022

LOUSTAL

Author of comic strips and talented illustrator, Jacques de LOUSTAL is also an accomplished painter who, through his canvases and lacquered paintings on glass, invites us to travel in his pictorial universe. The BREITENMOSER.ART gallery in partnership with the HUBERTY & BREYNE gallery is pleased to present from November 4 to December 5, 2022 an exceptional collection of recent paintings by LOUSTAL.

Among these paintings, we discover stylized landscapes composed of mosaics of blues and primary colors, typical interiors that plunge us into the intimate atmosphere of the LOUSTAL universe. Its models with marked contours, its legendary animals and its masks from overseas fuel our dreams of faraway escape.

Born in 1956, a graduate in architecture from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, LOUSTAL has published illustrations and many comic book albums since the end of the 1970s. A tireless globetrotter, it is in his travel paintings that his taste for wide horizons flourishes.

From the blue seas of the South to the great expanses of America, passing through the southern tip, Asia or Latin America, LOUSTAL excels in the transcription of all atmospheres in flat areas of bright colors that are sometimes cold but always enhanced with touches of red. His mastery of color and his sense of composition made him famous.

The graphic style of LOUSTAL's painting with its refined compositions and its fascination for the animal world is immediately recognizable. These exotic and dreamlike atmospheres where women are captivating and seductive take us to distant lands and the history of art. Fauvist painters, Paul Gauguin, Modigliani, David Hockney or even jazz and African popular art are inexhaustible sources of inspiration for LOUSTAL.
